Abstract

Numerous specialists in the field of intergenerational work have proved that intergenerational relations have an enormous potential for meeting individual and social needs, as well as for the development of our communities and societies. On this basis our intention was to approach the state of the art as far as the implementation of different types of intergenerational programs is concerned, knowing thus the contribution that the use of the aforementioned, in education, has meant to improve different aspects of the personal and academic lives of students at these levels. This has been carried out through a systematic review of national (ISOC) and international (EBSCOHOST) data bases, searching for studies published between 2012 and 2014 where it is referenced. The research results show that intergenerational exchange enhances commitment with school, reducing absenteeism, the involvement in violence and the use of drugs (Frankland & Conder, 2012), also contributing to content learning and the acquisition of new skills (Strotmann, 2012) by the students. Thus we believe that a solid commitment to his area of research will constitute the starting point for moving towards such a society in which all individuals have a place regardless of their age.
