Sostenibilidad urbana y economía alternativa en León

Abstract

This contribution is proposed as an interim progress of the results of the collective research carried out in the framework of the I+D+i Project on "Alternative Economic Spaces and Practices for Building Resilience in Spanish Cities", 2016‐2018 (Ref. CSO2015‐65452‐R MINECO / FEDER). In this context, it is interesting to present some aspects of the qualitative analysis methodology explored within the PRESECAL team, responsible for the aforementioned subsidized project, and its application to the case of the city of León, from the perspective of sustainability and urban resilience. The main objective is to identify, typify and locate the alternative economic practices that take shape in León, especially as a result of the crisis unleashed in 2008, and to relate this fact of economic, social and urban relevance with sustainability and resilience in Cities, two very present strategies in the current urban processes and closely united by a common challenge: to achieve cities where the quality of life of the inhabitants is improved and where it is possible to base social progress and economic development in principles respectful with the environment And the right of all citizens to improve their expectations and conditions of life, based on practices linked to a philosophy or a more humane concept of capitalism, which implies placing the economic benefit in the background. However, there is much to clarify in conceptual and methodological terms to arrive at a precise and rigorous analysis of alternative economic practices and their impact on the city of the twenty‐first century, a commitment towards which this work is tentatively oriented.
