Abstract

The transposition theory is offered, from the functional theories of grammar, as an explanation to some common linguistic phenomena. Although its description and analysis is relatively recent in grammatical studies —introduced in spanish grammar by Emilio Alarcos at the end of the twentieth century—, its sources seem to be more than a century away. This theory is still in development and has encountered some difficulties which its followers exert themselves to overcome, but it seems promising enough so that these don’t become an issue, but a bigger incentive to continue with its study.
