Abstract

This piece of research analyzes the Romanesque vestiges of one of the portals of Santa María de Carracedo (León), an enclave of Early Medieval origins linked to the royal house of León. The door's sculptures introduced artistic innovations in the Spanish Northwest, materialized in the statue-columns of King Alfonso VII and Abbot Florencio, who renewed the monastery in 1138. A reconstruction of that access, its comparison with other works and the study of its sculptors are presented here.
