Résumé
Spanish scholars have begun to request courses in skills relevant to publishing inEnglish in order to enhance their chances of seeing their work accepted byinternational journals. I argue that it would be pedagogically useful to include tasksto raise their awareness of English-Spanish cross-cultural variation in academicwriting. To support this, more cross-cultural research into academic discourses inEnglish and Spanish using rigorous comparative designs is still necessary. Afterreviewing previous cross-cultural studies, I suggest some features of methodologyand research design that would allow us to yield increasingly comparable, reliableand explanatory findings which could be a useful aid for developing practicalteaching applications.
