Abstract

ISO 25964 has seen the light when SKOS is accepted as a standard for the representation of vocabularies with RDF on the semantic web. While the new ISO understands the thesaurus from a point of view close to the approach of SKOS, it is a conceptual approach, and the standard presents a data model, among other innovations, there are difficulties to settle the applica-tion of ISO 25964 with the publication of SKOS the-sauri. This paper reviews the relationship of elements and structures ISO 2788 / ISO 25964 and SKOS/SKOS - XL, as well as integrity rules defined by the three standards to ensure consistency of vocabu-lary. From this examination, a specific proposal of evaluative criteria designed to assess the adequacy of thesaurus management tools to the requirements of SKOS and ISO 25964 is presented. We focus specifi-cally on the elements, structures and requirements of integrity that must be supported by these thesaurus tools. Finally, an analysis of the relevant changes introduced by the new ISO affecting the evaluative instrument previously proposed under the model of ISO 2788 is carried out. By the time the thesaurus tools using semantic technologies and evaluated in previous works have not introduced the new ISO specifications. We are expectant to the possible com-pletion of SKOS extension to cover the features of the new ISO model.
