Abstract

Lately the interest in knowing how the entities of civil service are acting has increased in order to improve the control of the resources, which are used by them. In that sense, university field has captured several researches, although some of its features impede to analyse its behaviour. This paper is based on evaluating the technical efficiency of the large knowledge areas (Humanities, Social Sciences, Experimental Sciences, Health Sciences and Technical), in order to know its own performances. Data Envelopment Analysis is used to achieve this aim; it is tool which has several applications in civil service, what guarantees its use, and allows knowing the relative efficiency of the evaluated areas evaluated, so as the required corrections for inefficiency ones. Moreover, constant returns to scales (CCR model) and variable returns to scale (BCC) are considered, so scale effects on the efficiency indexes of areas can be checked, so as too their own performance scales.
