Resum

This Doctoral Thesis addresses the status of the teaching profession in Basic School Education in the district of Carapeguá, Paraguay. The research is a mixed paradigm and an exploratory-descriptive scope. For this, two research instruments were used: on the one hand, a semi-structured questionnaire was applied by the survey technique; and secondly, a guide of questions for the interview technique. The study takes as reference, on the one hand, authors of sociological issues such as Joseph H. Fichter and Augusto De Venanzi; and on the other hand, researchers from educational issues, as Denise Vaillant, Miguel A. Zabalza international studies and reports of the company Mckinsey and OECD. The research explores the perception of the educational community members of Carapeguá, represented by teachers, parents and students, both urban and rural, and carries out a comparison of these visions in order to identify similarities and differences. The sample was intentionally selected based on the research objectives and the convenience for the researcher. The study results provide important information that can be used, especially in the study site and transferred to similar contexts. The research initially assumes that the status of the teaching profession in Carapeguá is low; however, this is not confirmed by the field study, especially considering the vision of all members of the educational community, as parents and students have a better appreciation than teachers about the teaching profession.
