Abstract

This thesis analyzed the World Trade Organization and the legal protection of the environment, as well as the Organization's commitment to sustainable development. In addition, this thesis examined the way the WTO explores the issues involving trade and the environment by researching the WTO jurisprudence in major cases involving the environment. It has also tried to determine how they have dealt with developing countries and the role of Brazil in the WTO. This thesis has studied the main agreements and other rules related to the topic, as well as the Doha Round. While the World Trade Organization does not aim for environmental protection, the reports of the panels and the decisions of the appellate body have enriched the jurisprudence of international environmental law
