Abstract

The quality of work life becomes increasingly important, given that factors such as stress at work are a major cause of absenteeism and other problems for organizations. Asking workers about the positive and negative factors associated with their employment can help improve their situation, and the quality of organizations. Thus, the present study aims to help identify the variables that are part of the quality of life for workers with intellectual disabilities. To meet these objectives focus groups were utilized and quantitative and qualitative analyses were performed. The sample consisted of 34 participants, 50% with intellectual disabilities, followed by 20.6% (n=7) with physical disabilities, 11.8% (n=4) with hearing disabilities, 2.9% (n=1) with visual impairment, 8.8% (n=3) with mental illness and 5.9% (n=2) with mixed disabilities, physical and sensory. The analysis of the responses showed that both the objective dimensions (working conditions, job performance, and organizational context) and the subjective (psychosocial processes) affect the assessment of quality of life. Results are discussed in light of the need to improve organizations, to better meet the needs of their workers.
