Abstract

Dental Education has features that may interfere with academic performance, example is the triadic relationship between the student and the teacher patient, considering the influence of humanisca part and is a particular aspect such as empathy can be a cause of stress from the moment of professional training. So the purpose of this work was to relate the empathy of students of Dentistry clinic Iztacala FES-I to patients with the degree of stress and academic performance. A quantitative method to measure the variables focused studio through the Scale of Physician Empathy Jefferson Scale of Perceived Stress and academic performance was used considering the averages obtained by students upon its completion degree in 4 years regulated under current study plan. Furthermore ethnographic observations within dental clinics FES-I, focusing on the relationship between students and professor patients were analyzed. The results obtained indicate that 88% of students are perceived in a stressful situation, presenting high levels of empathy, which are unrelated to academic performance. In conclusion it was determined a weak positive significant difference between stress and empathy, none of these showed no difference in academic performance, but circumstances alter the relationship between the students, the professor, patients and other stakeholders within were determined educational institution to be considered to achieve best performance and professional life to more satisfied.
