Abstract
The purpose of this paper is the analysis of maps in two ways: on one hand, the map is analysed as a model of spatial representation. On the other hand, it is considered as a document able to solve spatial problems. The paper is divided in two parts: The first is theoretical, while the second one is the result of a research among students aged ten to thirteen, who had to formulate hypothesis and to solve a problem related to the Aftica rnap.
