Abstract

Objective. To examine the effectiveness of a specific cold therapy, as a muscle recovery strategy, in professional basketball players throughout a regular season. Design. Longitudinal study. Setting. University research laboratory. Participants. Subjects in an experimental group, professional players (n=12). Main Outcome Measures. Serum markers of muscle metabolism, dynamometric measurement and fatigue perception were mesured. Muscular markers were measured during the regular season in September (T1), November (T2), March (T3) and April (T4).. Specific therapy in lower limbs muscles were immediately applied after every match to the experimental group. Results. Serum metabolism muscle markers reported significant differences at time (T1 vs. T2 vs. T3 vs. T4). Conclusions. These results suggest that specific cold therapy, improved muscle recovery in professional basketball players over a regular season.
