Résumé
This paper aims to analize the current situation regarding the social investment made by the former Spanish saving banks (nowadays known as Foundations). Thus, after revising the context of their financial restructuring, the current foundations are shown as well as their total investment in social activities and in which specific areas. In addition, the social and cultural areas seem to play an important role and the savings banks try to adapt their social activities to the geographic environment in which they are present. Finally, the paper shows a reduction in the social investment made by these financial entities since the financial crisis although since 2014 year an improvement seems to appear. Similarly, a necessity to homogenize their transparency is also stated.
