Abstract

Festuco hystricis-Ononidetea striatae classis nova and Rosmarinetea officinalis Br.-B1. 1947 em. are proponed as independent phytosociological classis of vegetation. Festuco-Ononidetea striatae is constitued for dry, basophilous pastures of caespitose hemicryptophytes and pulvinated chamaephytes. They are developed in the chryoturbated soils and they are distributed in the southern continental (submediterranean) area of the Eurosiberian region and in thc supramediterranean and oromediterranean zone of the Mediterranean region. The classis Rosmarinetea is distributed in the Mediterranean region and it is constitued of basophilous communities of nanophanerophytes and suffruticosus chamaephytes (thyme-scrubland, open scrubland, etc.) They are developcd over initial, decapitate or stony soils.
