Abstract

The phenomenon of Aging that takes place throughout the world has brought as one of its fundamental consequences the concern for the study of the quality of life of the elderly and the factors that are related to it, especially health and functional autonomy . To study the quality of life we have used a sample of 181 elderly people attending day centers in various regions of the province of Coruña, to which the CUBRECAVI was applied. For the treatment of the data we have performed a cluster analysis (quick cluster analysis method), with the objectives of establishing the profiles of quality of life of these elderly people and analyzing the relationship between quality of life and health (physical and mental) and the functional autonomy of these people, since aging in many cases entails limitations of health and functional abilities, as well as a greater need for attention and care. Our results allow us to affirm that older people with better physical and psychic health as well as with better functional autonomy have better levels of quality of life. Also, these results show that day centers are a relevant resource for improving the quality of life of the elderly.
