Abstract

The concept of reverse logistics has evolved over the years, from a basic conception related to the structure of distribution channels for recycling; passing through the enormous boost achieved from engineering and operational research fields; to the present, in which logistics and its associated return flows cannot be conceived separately. Based on an updated review of reverse logistics, the aim of this paper is to provide a description of the main challenges and opportunities that it represents for the urban logistics in the cities of the future.
