Abstract

Little is known about “Desulfovibrio” as an infectious pathogen of domestic animals. On the other hand, the reports of isolations of these bacteria in patients, especially elderly and other inmuno-depressed people have increase dramatically since recent years. This Doctoral Thesis pretends to highlight the participation of desulfovibrios in diarrheal processes appearing in pigs (both Iberian and white). Isolates were identified and characterized by various microbiological, biochemist and genetic procedures (MALDI TOF MS, for instance). Finally, the sensitivity of the strains to antimicrobial agents was investigated, emphasizing the study of beta-lactamase production.
