Abstract
The dilemma between Greeks and Barbarians, between Romans and Barbarians, was inside the classical tradition in the Mediterranean Antiquity. In the West, when the Barbarians were not a periphery, it was developed an intellectual dilemma that led to different reactions, that there are definied here on the basis of a process of adaptation that, after, led to the whole participation by the Christian (above all in its Catholic version) intellectuallity in the regna. This paper proposes some arguments on that process produced in the fifth century A.D.
