Abstract

Food labelling is an essential tool for guiding consumers in their product choices. However, there are clear difficulties in understanding labels, which can negatively impact consumers’ health, especially those with specific nutritional needs. To improve the populations’ nutritional literacy, an informative workshop on labelling was given during the Castilla y León Science Week, in which 24 people of varying ages and educational levels took part. Questionnaires were completed prior to and after the workshop for the purpose of analysing the degree of understanding of the content of the workshop and the level of satisfaction. The results showed a low initial knowledge of food labelling, and a significant improvement after it. Science outreach activities are a means to strengthen the relationship betweenthe university and society at large.
