Abstract

Various studies highlight the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and academic performance in university students, emphasizing the importance of incorporating emotional skills into educational training. This study analyzes three variables: EI, emotional competencies, and academic performance. The sample consists of 123 students from the University of León, including 90 undergraduate and 33 master’s students. Data were collected using the TMMS-24 and CDE-A scales, as well as students’ average academic grades. The results reveal no significant differences in EI between men and women. However, specific needs are identified in emotional dimensions depending on the field of study. Regarding emotional competencies, those related to life and well-being are the most developed, while emotional regulation is the weakest. Additionally, women show slightly higher academic performance, with significant variations across fields of study. Finally, students expressed interest in courses on EI.
