Abstract

Percutaneous nephrostomy is a decompressive technique used in cases of acute or chronic obstructive uropathy of supravesical aetiology and allows to ensure renal function and/or subsequent manipulations of the urinary tract. A nephrostomy is a procedure in which a catheter is inserted through the skin of the lumbar spine and into the kidney to pass urine. The aim of this paper has been to describe the procedure of fixing a percutaneous nephrostomy using the RevolutionTM device. This device cannot be reused, reprocessed, or resterilized and is designed for the fixation of non-vascular catheters in order to reduce catheter movement or accidental catheter removal. The RevolutionTM fixation procedure from cleaning the catheter edges to external catheter fixation is described in detail with images. It also includes a series of nursing observations related to its management and care.
